Mercury-Free Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings
Amalgam fillings once were the most convenient way to fill a cavity. Over time, however, they wore down and cracked as well as discolored in your mouth. In our practice, Dr. Griffin fills all cavities with composite fillings. These blend in with the surrounding tooth structure so your teeth look natural and healthy looking.
With composite fillings, Dr. Griffin uses a special type of resin to bond cavities, gaps, or cracks in your teeth. We then cure your new fillings with a special ultra-violet light. This helps the composite resin material pull the tooth together, forming a stronger restoration for the tooth.
If you had your teeth restored in the past, you may have amalgam fillings and wonder how composite fillings compare. Dr. Griffin feels that composite fillings are better than traditional amalgams in many ways. Amalgams discolor, so when you smile or open your mouth, people will see tell-tale black on the surface of your teeth.
