TMJ Treatment
Maybe you notice your upper and lower teeth bump when you eat, causing chips in your teeth or pain. Or possibly your jaw uncomfortably clicks, pops, or even sticks when you try to open your mouth. You may even suffer from persistent headaches, neck pain, or backaches that won’t go away. If any of these symptoms apply to you, you may have Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), a condition where your jaw hinge isn’t functioning properly. Dr. Griffin can treat TMJ with one of our neuromuscular dentistry treatments.
Neuromuscular dentistry focuses on the proper function of your face muscles and jaw joints. When these muscles are in a comfortable, relaxed position, your teeth and joints work without problem. If the muscles are out of line, however, you may experience a variety of problems, from loose or chipped teeth to pain in other parts of your body.
When you schedule a consultation at our practice, Dr. Griffin will perform a complete neuromuscular diagnostics examination. If you’re in pain, he will determine the cause and recommend a specific neuromuscular treatment. Sometimes, this can be as simple as prescribing a nightguard, a small mouthpiece designed to stop you from unconscious clenching and grinding while you sleep. Other times, he may suggest orthodontics to move or align your teeth into a better position.
Even if you are simply visiting our office for cosmetic treatment, Dr. Griffin will still perform a neuromuscular examination. He will take the alignment of your bite into consideration as he creates or restores your smile. This check also helps us to prevent pain and problems in the future as well as maintain the beauty of your new smile. To schedule a consultation, call our practice at 713-827-1002.
